BURGUNDY - VISIT THE VILLAGE OF CHABLIS AND ITS CELLARS
BURGUNDY - VISIT THE VILLAGE OF CHABLIS AND ITS CELLARS
The village of Chablis dates back to Roman times with the establishment of four important villas. Uprooted under Emperor Domitian (81-96), the vines were replanted by the Romans during the reign of Emperor Probus (276-282).
The monks planted their first vines in Chablis in 1133; it was they who identified the finest terroirs that are today the premier and grands crus of Chablis. They notably built a cellar and a wine press known locally as “le Petit Pontigny.”
Numerous cellars and wine cellars, some 300 to 500 years old, can be discovered in the town, and don’t forget to sample the main local wines at the “La Chablisienne” cooperative.
Chablis is 25 minutes from the Manoir de Pimelles.

BURGUNDY - VISIT TO THE HOTEL-DIEU DE TONNERRE
The Hôtel-Dieu de Tonnerre, also known as the Hôtel-Dieu Notre-Dame-des-Fontenilles or the Old Hospital, is a former hospital, now a museum, founded in 1293 by Margaret of Burgundy in the town of Tonnerre, Burgundy.
It is the longest medieval hospital in Europe and one of the oldest.
In 1293, Margaret of Burgundy, Countess of Tonnerre, widow of Charles of Anjou, King of Sicily, began construction of the Hôtel-Dieu in the heart of the capital of her county, Tonnerre[3].
It provided the builders with substantial financial resources, as well as the nearby quarries and woods of Maulnes, as well as chestnut trees from Puisaye and a forest north of Paris, enabling the building to be completed in two years.
In 1295, the Hôtel-Dieu admitted its first patients in some forty beds.
Around 1305, the Golden Virgin moved to the choir of the Great Hall.
In 1308, Margaret of Burgundy died and was buried in the choir of the Great Hall.
Admission: Adult (€8) – Child 7-18 years (€5)
